What Christmas Is to Me

Joy to the world, the Lord is come!
Let earth receive her King;
Let every heart prepare Him room,
And Heaven and nature sing,
And Heaven and nature sing,
And Heaven, and Heaven, and nature sing.

Joy to the world, the Savior reigns!
Let men their songs employ;
While fields and floods, rocks, hills and plains
Repeat the sounding joy,
Repeat the sounding joy,
Repeat, repeat, the sounding joy.

No more let sins and sorrows grow,
Nor thorns infest the ground;
He comes to make His blessings flow
Far as the curse is found,
Far as the curse is found,
Far as, far as, the curse is found.

He rules the world with truth and grace,
And makes the nations prove
The glories of His righteousness,
And wonders of His love,
And wonders of His love,
And wonders, wonders, of His love.

This song is sung mostly at Christmas…

but it really takes us from the cradle to the cross…

just think about it.

It seems this time of year people go nuts!

             With the decorations  and the lights.

 With the shopping and       the eating.

 Everyone thinks it’s a “holiday”.

Even the gift giving is out of control,   who to get something for and what to get them.

Ok…so what about THE GIFT?

The ONE GIFT God gave us all.

With all the commotion going on, who stops to think why we even have this Christmas time?

CHRISTMAS is all about CHRIST!

Even from the Old Testament it was foretold that Jesus would be born.  Isaiah 7:14, “Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and shall call His name Immanuel.”

And then in the New Testament, it came to pass that Jesus was born of Mary chosen by God.  Matthew 1:21-23, “And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins.  So all this was done that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the Lord through the prophet, saying:  Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and bear a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel, which is translated, “God with us”.”

Now that’s something to celebrate!

And we don’t need bells and whistles and glitz and lights to do it.

The reason we have Christmas is to prepare us for the PURPOSE; and that takes us right to the CROSS.

Christ was born to take away the sins of the world.  John 1:29, “…Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!”

God’s Gift to us.  Ephesians 2:8, “For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God.”  God’s kindness, God’s grace, His Son Jesus Christ.

The only gift we need to receive…so simple…so lasting.

Merry Christmas
