The Ultimate Reality Check—-“Death”

I can only imagine WHAT it will be like,
When I walk by Your side.
I can only imagine what my eyes will see,
When Your face is before me:
I can only imagine.
Surrounded by Your glory,
What will my heart feel?
Will I dance for you Jesus?
Or in awe of You be still?
Will I stand in Your presence?
Or to my knees will I fall?
Will I sing Hallelujah?
Will I be able to speak at all?
I can only imagine.
I can only imagine when that day comes,
And I find myself standing in the Son.
I can only imagine when all I WOULD do,
Is forever, forever worship You.
I can only imagine.

Words and Music by Bart Millard

Ok, the title of this tract is scary.  But I want to help you to know that not all of us will be physically dead and buried at the time Jesus comes back.  Not all of us will be raised up if we should die before Jesus comes back.  As not all of us have accepted Jesus as our personal Saviour and live for Him at this moment!

The word “death” as we know it seems to be the ultimate end. It’s so final. That’s all there is…kaputzta!  Life can be no more.

The grim reaper is in town.

We CAN overcome the fear of death
when we sit, walk, run and dance with JESUS.

As Christians we know, by faith, that heaven exists and that it is the place from which God the Father and God the Son, Jesus Christ reigns.  Heaven has been reserved for those who love Jesus, those who have committed their lives to Him as they live here on earth.  We also know, by faith, that those who belong to Jesus will live forever with Him in heaven.  He told us that when he went to prepare a place for us.

John 14:1-3 “Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me.  In my Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so I would have told you.  I go to prepare a place for you.  And if I go to prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also.”  We also know that there is only one way to know that we will be in the Father’s house and that is through Jesus only.  John 14:6 “I am the way, the truth, and the life.  No one comes to the Father except through Me.”   Now those who are not Christians and who do not have a personal relationship with Jesus, don’t think that when you die, (even though you’ve been good and nice) you will automatically be on your way to heaven.  JESUS holds the passports.  JESUS is the Key!

Paul in 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18 says he doesn’t want us to be ignorant about those who have “fallen asleep” or have died.   He is using ‘asleep’ as a substitute for death.  But, there is the all important “but” here, because not everyone who has died will be resurrected when Jesus comes again, only those whose lives were given to Jesus, those who lived daily in a walk with Him and obeyed His word and who asked for Jesus to come into their hearts and who fully trust and rely on Him in their journey on this earth.

It’s an interesting notion to know that those of us who have had parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles who were trusting in the Lord and walked with Him daily and have passed on and are buried in a grave, that although their bones are in the grave they themselves are not.  For when the Lord comes back and calls us all to Him, those who are in the grave, who are in Christ, shall rise first.  That means their bones will go up to meet with their souls once again and they will be basically the person the once were, only better.

But…when the Lord calls us up to Him not all of us will be asleep (that is dead and buried).  Those of us who are still alive, who are followers of Jesus, will be, in the twinkling of an eye, caught up in the clouds to meet with Him.  AMEN!!!!!  1 Corinthians 15:51-52 “Behold I tell you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed – in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet.  For a trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.”  You’ve seen movies of how people just disappear from the earth…they are driving along and poof gone from their cars.  Or tending the flowers in the garden and they’re trowel and garden gloves and clothes are neatly folded beside the flowers but they are poof gone.  Or maybe walking your child home from school and poof your child’s hand is no longer in yours, poof the child has been taken away, but you have been left behind.  This is pretty much how it’s going to happen.  Jesus explains that the hour and day when He will return is not known, not even by the angels, but only by His Father. (Matthew 24:36).  Jesus also tells us in Matthew 24:40-41 “Then two men will be in the field: one will be taken and the other left.  Two women will be grinding at the mill: one will be taken and the other left.”   Why one and not the other?  It’s because one of the two men and two women are faithful and follow the Lord and will be taken to be with Him and the other two left have not accepted or did not know the Lord as their Saviour.  Jesus is quite clear when he says we should all be ready.  Matthew 24:44 “Therefore you also be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.”

So I’m saying if you want to go to heaven, whether you are dead or alive, when the time comes…you need to be ready, you need to be a follower of Jesus…you need to be faithful, watching and waiting.  As Paul tells us in 1 Corinthians 16:13-14 “Watch, stand fast in the faith, be brave, be strong.  Let all that you do be done with love.”  The situation we find ourselves in today is not much different than that of Paul’s time.  We, the church, the body of Christ, is under attack from our culture, from false teachers and from our sin.  This could be seen as a warning to those who do not love the Lord Jesus, that if you are not prepared spiritually, with a sincere faith, you may be one of the ones left behind.

So as I finish, have you caught the thread of what I am trying to explain, that Jesus is the all important part of whether you will be left behind or that of living a life eternally with Him.

If you haven’t accepted Jesus as your personal Lord and Saviour, what are you waiting for.  If you wait too long, it might be too late.  When you see your loved ones and friends disappear, and you haven’t gone with them, you know the reason why and you know you’ve waited too long.

Jesus is waiting for you too.
