EMMANUEL

He was not the One we thought would come
We were lookin’ for a king
But He didn’t come in glory
The Author of the oceans and the sun
Still He chose to be
Written in our story

So He could feel
Our flesh and blood
And we could know
His love

Emmanuel
A manger for a bed
No crown upon His head
He came like us instead
Emmanuel
He meets you where you are
He holds your heavy heart
Our God is with us all
Emmanuel
Emmanuel

It was no mistake that He arrived
Lost without a home
Helpless as a baby
So if we’re feelin’ lost in our own lives
We are not alone
He has felt the same things

Because He lived
In flesh and blood
We can know
His love

Oh, what an invitation
Oh, His only expectation
Is for us to come and offer Him our all
To kneel before the Child who shall be called

Emmanuel

Emmanuel” Co-written by Hannah Kerr, Andy Gullahorn and Jill Phillips

Immanuel (Hebrew: עִמָּנוּאֵל‎ meaning, “God with us”.  As the song Emmanuel says He was a king but He did not come with a crown on his head.  He came into the world like you and I did.  However, He was God’s final Word to mankind to save us all from Satan’s power.

Isaiah of the Old Testament wrote, 7:14  “Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and shall call His name Immanuel.”  And again we see Matthew, 1:23, repeat those words in the New Testament, “Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and bear a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel”, which is translated, “God with us.”  showing Isaiah’s prophecy fulfilled.

700 years before Christ was born the Prophet Isaiah announces the birth of the coming Messiah.  The great light of salvation. “For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given; and the government will be upon His shoulder.  And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”  Isaiah 9:6

The thing about the shepherds was that they were considered the lowest of people.  But not in God’s eyes.  As they were the first to be told of the good news of the birth of Christ.  “Now there were in the same country shepherds living out in the fields, keeping watch over their flock by night.  And behold, an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were greatly afraid.  Then the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people.  For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Saviour, who is Christ the Lord.”  Luke 2:9-11  Really there is nothing much that different today.  We are no better or worse than the shepherds of long ago.  So many are afraid of the name of Jesus, but we needn’t be.  Because this joy is for each and every one of us.  And oh how we need it today.  This is why He came and He still wants to know each of us personally.

Even Mary had no idea, at that particular moment, just how important this event was.  She loved God and trusted in Him that this mission He gave her was important and that she would see it through.  Later, through life with Jesus, she would reflect on all that He would do, and she would know the gift that He was for all of us.

Mary, did you know
that your Baby Boy would one day walk on water?
Mary, did you know
that your Baby Boy would save our sons and daughters?
Did you know
that your Baby Boy has come to make you new?
This Child that you delivered will soon deliver you.Mary, did you know
that your Baby Boy will give sight to a blind man?
Mary, did you know
that your Baby Boy will calm the storm with His hand?
Did you know
that your Baby Boy has walked where angels trod?
When you kiss your little Baby you kissed the face of God?The blind will see.
The deaf will hear.
The dead will live again.
The lame will leap.
The dumb will speak
The praises of The Lamb.Mary, did you know
that your Baby Boy is Lord of all creation?
Mary, did you know
that your Baby Boy would one day rule the nations?
Did you know
that your Baby Boy is heaven’s perfect Lamb?
The sleeping Child you’re holding is the great “I Am”.
Mary Did You Know” By Mark Lowry (lyrics) and Buddy Greene (melody)

But that’s not the end of the story.
Because even after 2,020 (approx) years,
Wise Men still seek Him
Have you sought Him out?
Do you know Him personally?
He can give you the JOY you’ve been missing in your life.
The one gift you don’t have to spend a dime on this Christmas!
From me to You
