More and Enough

Child of promise sent from heaven
Light from light shine down to us
Oh to fill a hungry people
Child of promise, child of God

You are faithful, You are Saviour
You are more than enough
You are healer, You are holy
You are more than enough

Man of sorrows, heart of mercy
Love raised high upon a cross
Dead to lead us to redemption
Man of sorrows, Son of God

Lord of life in glory risen
Love has conquered both sin and grave
Heaven’s gates are truly open
Lord of life, King of Kings

I’m alive in the arms of love
I lift my hands to the God above

“The evening arrived; the boys took their places. The master, in his cook’s uniform, stationed himself at the copper; his pauper assistants ranged themselves behind him; the gruel was served out; and a long grace was said over the short commons. The gruel disappeared; the boys whispered each other, and winked at Oliver; while his next neighbours nudged him. Child as he was, he was desperate with hunger, and reckless with misery. He rose from the table; and advancing to the master, basin and spoon in hand, said: somewhat alarmed at his own temerity:  ‘Please, sir, I want some more.'”

The more you have the more you want.  You haven’t got enough, so you want more.  We are up to our eyeballs with stuff and still we want more.

When is enough, enough?

Want > Need…Want > NeedWant > Need…Want > Need…need I go on????

When people go shopping for a new house they have a budget and a want list.  Seldom do they just look at the need list.   Yes they need a kitchen…but want a gourmet kitchen.  Yes they need a bathroom…but want a spa.

Philippians 4:19, “And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.”

Matthew 6:8 Jesus said,  “For your Father knows the things you have need of before you ask Him.”

Matthew 6:25 Jesus told us, “Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body what you will put on.  Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing?”

and further

Psalm 40:5, “Many, O Lord my God, are Your wonderful works which You have done; and Your thoughts toward us cannot be recounted to You in order; if I would declare and speak of them, they are more than can be numbered.”

Now, you wonder what is enough?

I say God’s grace is enough!  This grace and truth comes through Jesus Christ.  Jesus said to Paul in 2 Corinthians 12:9, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.”  Paul continues to say in Ephesians 1:7, “In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace.”

These riches are more than mere money… they are riches in

His mercy.      His blessings.   His Grace.

I have a loving husband who I share everything with.

I have a roof over my head and I am happy in my house and will be happier still when Jesus comes to take me Home.

I have clothes to wear, and although I have my favourites, I do need new ones from time to time or the old would be thread bare.

I have other things which I enjoy, but if I didn’t have them I wouldn’t count them as loss, because I have enough.

I have Jesus.

And He has me.

You will never know what is enough

until you know what is more than enough

and that is Jesus!

I think I’ve said more than enough!
