Eternity

I can only imagineWhat it will be likeWhen I walk by Your sideI can only imagine
What my eyes would seeWhen Your face is before meI can only imagine
Surrounded by Your gloryWhat will my heart feel? Will I dance for You JesusOr in awe of You be still? Will I stand in Your presenceOr to my knees, will I fall? Will I sing hallelujah? Will I be able to speak at all?I can only imagineI can only imagine
I can only imagineWhen that day comesAnd I find myselfStanding in the SonI can only imagineWhen all I will doIs forever, forever worship YouI can only imagine, yeahI can only imagine

What does eternity look like?

Scientifically speaking, it is infinity – unlimited extent of time, space, or quantity.  For instance in math, when the sum goes on, and on, forever.

Spiritually speaking, eternity is paradise with our Lord Jesus, which also goes on and on forever.  Everlasting life.

History of our past is important to know.  Some people want to erase history from schools and create their own ideas of how we came to where we are now.  We need to learn about wars, slavery, the depression years and the prosperous years, the good and the bad of it all.   How else are we to know what to do and avoid doing in the future.

You can find Eternity in biblical history.  Micah 5:2 speaks of Jesus, “But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, though you are little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of you shall come forth to Me the One to be Ruler in Israel, whose goings forth are from of old, from everlasting.”  This was prophesized approximately 700 years before Jesus was born.  Also, before Micah, Isaiah 7:14 tells of Jesus’ birth, “Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and shall call His name Immanuel.”

Jesus, Himself stunned His listeners when He said in John 8:58, “Most assuredly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I AM.”  There are many places in the Old Testament where we can see Jesus, although He was not called Jesus back then, but He was alive back in the days of Abraham.  He was alive back when the world was created.  John 1:3, “All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made.”  and Colossians 1:16, “By Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth.”

Eternity is in your Heart.  Jesus has loved and created in us with eternity in our hearts, a desire for something more permanent than this brief life we have on earth.  Ecclesiastes 3:11, “He has made everything beautiful in its time.   Also He has put eternity in their hearts, except that no one can find out the work that God does from beginning to end.”  As Augustine wrote, “Thou has made us for Thyself, and our hearts are restless till they find their rest in Thee.”  Finding true peace can only be found in Jesus and when you bring Him into your heart you will experience it.  We have a God-shaped hole in our hearts that only Jesus can fit into.  Jesus is the only one.

The description of Eternal Life is found in John 17:3 where Jesus speaks to the Father in heaven just before His betrayal and arrest, “And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.”  Joy – is when all is well with you and your maker.  Jesus said in John 10:10, “I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.”  This is the description of the life of God in our souls.  Eternal Life is something you don’t have to wait for in the future, you can experience it now, today!

In Eternity, Jesus lives for us.  Hebrews 10:12, “But this Man, after He had offered one sacrifice for sins forever, sat down at the right hand of God.”  In Eternity, Jesus prays for us. Romans 8:34, “Who is he who condemns? It is Christ who died, and furthermore is also risen, who is even at the right hand of God, who also makes intercession for us.”  In Eternity, Jesus protects us.  Jude v. 24, “Now to Him who is able to keep you from stumbling, and to present you faultless before the presence of His glory with exceeding joy.”

In Eternity, Jesus provides a place for us.  John 14: 2-4, “In My Father’s house are many mansions, if it were not so, I would have told you.  I go to prepare a place for you.  And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself, that where I am, there you may be also.  And where I go you know, and the way you know.”  The last sentence is important for us all as Romans 6:23 says, “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

Jesus is the only way to Eternity.  John 14:6, Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No on comes to the Father except through Me.”  Accept Jesus today, it will be the BEST! decision you will ever make.

If you don’t know Jesus as your Saviour, pray this little prayer and accept Him into your heart and spend Eternity with Him.
