“In Training”

Simply trusting every day;
Trusting through a stormy way;
Even when my faith is small,
Trusting Jesus, that is all.

    Trusting as the moments fly,
    Trusting as the days go by,
    Trusting Him, whate’er befall,
      Trusting Jesus, that is all.

Brightly doth His Spirit shine
Into this poor heart of mine;
While He leads I cannot fall,
Trusting Jesus, that is all.

Singing if my way be clear,
Praying if the path be drear;
If in danger, for Him call,
Trusting Jesus, that is all.

Trusting Him while life shall last,
Trusting Him till earth is past,
Till His gracious advent call,
Trusting Jesus, that is all.

“Trusting Jesus” written by Edgar Page (1876-1921), a riverboat pilot.

Puppies, ain’t they just the cutest!

We love to see them frolic and run, and get into trouble too!

Training your puppy to grow and be a good dog can sometimes be quite the task.

Lesson One :  “Down and Stay”

If puppy is running toward the road, this command could save it’s life.

Lesson Two:  “Drop It”

Puppies are famous for picking up things in their mouth, especially things that could be harmful to them.

Lesson Three:  “Come”

When your puppy loves you and sees you and you say “come”, everybody’s tail is wagging!

“Train up a child in the way he should go,
And when he is old he will not depart from it.”
Proverbs 22:6

As Christians, we too need training from our Father.  Our Bibles are our manuals, that provide the training we need.   When God tells us “down, stay”, it is so we don’t rush headlong into temptations that could hurt us Matthew 6:13, “And lead us not into temptation, but deliver. us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and. the power, and the glory, for ever.”  By asking God to deliver us from evil, we acknowledge that we are helpless by ourselves to follow Jesus on the path of righteousness that he modeled for us.

When God tells us to “drop it”, it is so we can get rid of those bad habits that are like a ball and chain that we need to let go of and let God take care of the rest.  2 Corinthians 5:17, “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.”

When God says “Come”, He wants us to go to Him, and follow Him, and love Him.  Matthew 11:28, Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”  This is an invitation by the one and only Jesus. If you’re tired and struggling, He can give you rest. This also describes the path to God the Father, but it is not one of labour and hard work. Following Jesus frees us from carrying the burden of our own sin because He has already done that work.

Our obedience to God’s commandments demonstrates our love for Him.  Obedience to God is not only a way to worship him, but a way to get closer to him, prepare for whatever he leads you to and grow as a person.

When we were young, we were taught the “Lord’s Prayer” Matthew …   We would start our day in school with it.  It gave us a good grounding for going forward in our day and life.  Now that God is being removed from most of our lives, there is no solid foundation for our young ones to grasp on to.  It’s a simple prayer and easy to learn by heart.  A lot of parents are not taking their little ones to Sunday School or church and they themselves are not grounded in God’s hope for them, and so the children are not either.

It encapsulates all that we should be thankful for, while praising and honouring God as our heavenly Father.

A little training in all of our lives is a good thing.  When we know and take the right steps with God. our lives are full and more abundant.  As Jesus said:
