Have you dreamed of a stairway to heaven
A home just beyond the blues.
A stairway of gold to God’s heavenly fold.
A stairway is waiting for you.
There’s a stairway golden stairway
A stairway that leads to heaven.
That leads to a home so bright and fair.
Step by step I’ll climb till his hand touches mine.
Then I’ll rest at the top of the stairs.
There’s a stairway that leads up to heaven
That others before you have trod.
They’ve gone to a place that Jesus prepared
At the foot of the throne of God.
There’s a place at the top of the stairway
Where we’ll rest when we’re all safely there.
And friends that believe that someday we will meet
In our home at the top of the stairs.
“Stairway to Heaven” written by Bill J. Grant and Ralph Stanley
It’s madness Begin today!
To be always sitting around in sadness You’ll find it nice
When you could be learning the steps of gladness The quickest way to paradise
You’ll be happy when you can do When you practice
Just six or seven; Here’s the thing to do
Simply say as you go
I’ll build a stairway to Paradise
With a new step ev’ry day!
I’m gonna get there at any price;
Stand aside, I’m on my way!
I’ve got the blues
And up above it’s so fair
Shoes! Go on and carry me there!
I’ll build a stairway to Paradise
With a new step every day
Ok, we’ve established that with these two songs, some say, there’s a stairway to Heaven or Paradise. A ladder could be just as useful, after all, it’s another method of stepping upward.
There are many types of ladders.
Stepladders Straight Platform Extension Multi-way
When you need one more step for those small jobs, the stepladder will do. When you’re cleaning the eaves of leaves, the straight could be just the right height. Platform ladders you see at Home Depot, when what you want is on the top shelf and the staff member has to go up to get it. Extensions are for that job that a couple more rungs would get you where you need to go. Don’t ask me about the multi-way, it’s complicated and I can’t tell you how it even stands up.
Then there’s the competitors ladder, the one they call the Corporate Ladder. For the career-minded. The higher you go, the more money you get, the more prestige you obtain, the more headaches you have, the more stress. Some people thrive on this ladder. But the way I look at it is, whatever you get out of climbing this ladder, you can’t take it with you, when you die.
Not One Of These Ladders Will Get You To Heaven
Here’s an idea…look at Jesus.
He could be THE LADDER you’ve been looking for. Not just for the right task, but every task.
Just think every day with Jesus, is like taking one rung up the ladder, or one further step on the stairway to heaven.
Life can be hard – no question, but God has given us tools to ease the daily grind.
First, He gave us Jesus. Make Him your focal point. “You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.” Matthew 22:37
Next, He gave us His written word The Bible. Where we find instruction, reproof, because we all need to be reprimanded at times, and “All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness.” 2 Timothy 3:16 the promises of God’s goodness for us. “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11 NIV
Then, He taught us to pray. Prayer changes things, it gives us power and strength, through the Holy Spirit . “But you, when you pray, go into your room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly. And when you pray, do not use vain repetitions as the heathen do. For they think that they will be heard for their many words. Therefore do not be like them. For your Father knows the things you have need of before you ask Him.” Matthew 6:6-8 The Holy Spirit is with you everywhere you go, every moment of the day. Don’t be afraid to rely on Him.
God has given each of us talents and skills, to help ourselves and more importantly to help others; all for His glory. “Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms. If anyone speaks, they should do so as one who speaks the very words of God. If anyone serves, they should do so with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. To him be the glory and the power for ever and ever. Amen.” 1 Peter 4:10-11
Now your at the top of the ladder. It’s high up there and your shaking, saying “I can’t make it. I can’t go up any further or I’ll fall.” JUST DON’T LOOK DOWN. Looking down or back can cause you to falter, slip and slide backwards, not what you want to happen.
BUT WAIT! Jesus is there. His hand is stretched out for you to take, He’s there at the last rung to take you home….YOU’VE ARRIVED! His Good and Faithful Servant. “His lord said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant; you were faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your lord.” Matthew 25:21
You’ve accomplished climbing the ladder. You may have had a few upsets, a few trips up wards. Maybe one step up and two steps back, but you stuck with it and now your at the top. HALLELUJAH!
Give the glory all to God!
If you don’t have this wonderful relationship with Jesus and would like to start one, simply pray this prayer with an open heart and start up that ladder on the first rung with Jesus!
May God Richly Bless You Today!
