Lies, Lies and More Lies

The simple truth seems hard to find
When it’s hard to set the noise aside
And let You speak to me
To find I’m finally listening
So I could hear, I love You
The simple truth is God is love
And there’s no line that his love won’t cross
He crossed the line for me
From shame into love freely given
God, I’m here, and I love You
The simple truth is God so loved
The world he sent his only son
To live, and on the cross
To die that I would not be lost
But find that I
I love You
The simple truth is love has won
There’s not a thing that can be done
By death in all its power
To overwhelm love’s finest hour
Now, I’m here and I love You

The Simple Truth: Written by Elias Dummer, Christian Gospel

Cain killed his brother Abel

After God asked Cain where is your brother, Abel; Cain responded,

“I don’t know.  Am I my brother’s keeper?”

Cain’s answer was a futile attempt to deceive God.   Lying seems to be a long established and an “accepted” part of the human experience.

These days,

the biggest LACK of honesty, truth and integrity can be found in …

Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; a man’s life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions.”

Why do people tell lies?  Simple: self-preservation.  They tell a bare faced untruth to avoid punishment or blame.  They lie to save their own skins.

The father of lies is Satan.

Lying shows hate toward others.  Proverbs 26:28 teaches, “A lying tongue hates those who are crushed by it, and a flattering mouth works ruin.”   Lying is ultimately the work of the devil.  Jesus taught, John 8:44, “You are of your father the devil, and your will is to do your father’s desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks out of his own character, for he is a liar and the father of lies”.

Lying, whether a small lie or a big lie, is sin before God.  He calls us to turn to Him for forgiveness 1 John 1:9, to speak the truth in love Ephesians 4:15, and to walk in His truth. Only then will others see our good deeds and give glory to our Father in heaven Matthew 5:16.

Know Truth and speak truth, then you will know lies when you hear them.

God loves truthful speech and truth-tellers.  “Lying lips are an abomination to the Lord, but those who deal faithfully are His delight.”  Proverbs 12:22

Lying reveals a lack of godliness.  “A righteous man hates falsehood, but a wicked man acts disgustingly and shamefully.” Proverbs 13:5

Lying is a mark of an unfaithful person.  “A trustworthy witness will not lie, but a false witness utters lies.”  Proverbs 14:5

Liars love impure conversation.  “An evildoer listens to wicked lips; a liar pays attention to a destructive tongue.” Proverbs 17:4

Truthful people will prevail in the end.  “But the king will rejoice in God; everyone who swears by Him will glory, for the mouths of those who speak lies will be stopped.”  Psalm 63:11

“Truthful lips will be established forever, but a lying tongue is only for a moment.”  Proverbs 12:19

God doesn’t lie.  You want the truth…read your bible…it is loaded with truth.   You want to know what in the world is going on, read your bible…it’s all there…the truth about who really loves you, the truth about when the earth will end, the truth about who’s lying to you now and the truth about who is the Truth, Jesus.  Our attitude toward the truth determines the outcome of our lives.  If we want to be protected from lies, if we want to be able to know when we are being lied to, we need God’s instruction.

Remember Jesus said “I am the way, the truth and the life, no man comes to the Father but by me.”  John 14:6

Jesus is the living truth, the Word of God (Bible) is the written truth.  Though heaven and earth will pass away, God’s Truth never will.

For your protection and that of your loved ones, listen cautiously to those who speak to you and don’t always feel you have to agree with what’s being said.  Step back and do your own fact-checking.  Check out what God has to say about it…there is an answer, one you can trust…Jesus.  He’s waiting for you with outstretched hands, saying “Come,  [your name here]”.

To get started on your own fact-checking and truth seeking, you can start with a simple prayer asking Jesus into your heart.  He will help guide you to seeing what is light and darkness, the Truth and the lies.  May God richly bless you today.
