“MORE Than A Teacher”

I am the maker of the Heavens
I am the bright and morning star
I am the breath of all Creation
Who always was
And Is to come
I am the One who walked on water
I am the One who calmed the seas
I am the miracles and wonders
So come and see
And follow me
And you will know
That I am the fount of living water
The risen Son of man
The healer of the broken
And when you cry
I am your saviour and redeemer
Who bore the sin of man
The author and perfecter
Beginning and the end
Yes I AM
I am the spirit deep inside you
I am the word upon your heart
I am the One who even knew you
Before your birth
Before you were
“I Am” written by Mark Schultz, contemporary Christian music artist.

We know from early in the Bible, God led Moses up the mountain and showed Himself to Moses as a burning bush. God said to Moses “I am the God of your father—the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.”  Exodus 3:6

And when Moses asked God what should he say to the children of Israel when they ask him His name, God answered with, “I AM WHO I AM.” And He said, “Thus you shall say to the children of Israel, ‘I AM has sent me to you.’ ”  Exodus 3:14

First and foremost our Father in Heaven is the great I AM.  But when He sent His Son, Jesus to be among us, Jesus took on many names as He is more than a teacher.

Jesus is The Bread of Life.  “I am the bread of life.  He who comes to Me shall never hunger, and he who believes in Me shall never thirst.”  John 6:35

Jesus is the bread of eternal life in heaven.  “I am the living bread which came down from heaven.  If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever; and the bread that I give is My flesh, which I shall give for the life of the world.”  John 6:51

Jesus gives us all that we need in every part of life.  We know that bread is something that fills us.  It is a gift of God.  Jesus multiplied the bread to feed the crowd (Matthew 14:13-21).  It was the symbol of His body during the last supper with His disciples (Matthew 26:17-30).  The body that was given up for you and me on the cross (Matthew 27:32-56).  Jesus is the bread that nourishes a hungry soul.

Jesus is The Light of the World.  “I am the light of the world.  He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.”  John 8:12

When Jesus came to earth, He came to fill the hearts of God’s people with a light to lead them in their journey of life on this earth.  We as Christians are reflectors of Jesus’ light when He is in us.  When we stay in God’s word and apply it to everything we do, during our days in the here and now – we reflect to others that light that is Jesus in us.

Jesus is The Door by which we can enter heaven and eternity.  “I am the door.  If anyone enters by Me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture.”  John 10:9

Jesus used the analogy of sheep and a shepherd.  We are His sheep and the benefits are, that through Him we enter God’s sheepfold.  We become saved, protected and His pasture is the constant sustenance for our souls, when we read God’s word.

You and I also have a door, as in this picture, where Jesus stands on the outside and knocks.  There is no door knob on the outside for Jesus to enter.  This door is our heart.  We have to open the door from the inside and when we do that, we walk through The Door Jesus has offered, into life eternal.

Jesus is The Good Shepherd.  We are His sheep.  He knows our names.  Sheep are not smart and need a shepherd.  Psalm 23 tells us that he leads us, we want for nothing, His word is our direction and we walk with Him.  He gave His life for us so that we might live.  “I am the good shepherd.  The good shepherd gives His life for the sheep…I am the good shepherd, and I know My sheep, and am known by my own.”  John 1o:11, 14

Jesus is The Resurrection and The Life.  Jesus has the power over death. “I am the resurrection and the life.  He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live.  And whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die.  Do you believe this?”  John 11:25-26

Without the resurrection of Jesus from the tomb, Christianity would seize to exist.  Because Jesus died and rose on the 3rd day, so shall we rise one day, whether we are dead or alive when He comes again, we will all be with Him in eternity.  Jesus’ resurrection provides us citizenship in heaven, “For our citizenship is in heaven, from which we also eagerly wait for the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, who will transform our lowly body that it may be conformed to His glorious body…”  Philippians 3:20-21  That will be one amazing extreme make-over.  Know Jesus, Know Life…No Jesus, No life.

Jesus is The Way, The Truth, The Life.  Only someone who is really God could utter these words, “I am the way, the truth, and the life.  No one comes to the Father except through Me.”  John 14:6

Jesus Christ alone is the only way into Heaven, but true acceptance of Him always results in a change of life.  There are some who would say there are many roads that lead to heaven –NO– that’s a bad trip.  The road may be narrow, but it assists in keeping us from straying off in directions we don’t want to go.  Like a horse wearing blinders, the narrow road prevents us from seeing behind and beside us.

“Enter through the narrow gate.  For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it.  But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.”  Matthew 7:13-14

Jesus is The Vine.   Jesus is the main stem, the stock that holds up a plant.  We are the branches, the off-shoots when we become His followers.  Without His love, guidance, knowledge, wisdom, and power, we would wither and die.  “Abide in Me, and I in you.  As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me.”  John 15:4

Jesus is the source of all life.  We as believers enjoy a reciprocal relationship with Jesus.  The fundamental truth of being a Christian is that we must be connected to Jesus, like a tender branch on a vine.  We can only grow with the vine, when we feed off the vine.

With all that Jesus is as noted above, He is more, Jesus is the Son of God, Jesus the Saviour of the world, Jesus is the head of the church, Jesus is the only way to see God and the only mediator between God and us, Jesus is our comforter and healer for our brokenness that is our sin, our Redeemer!

“For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.”  Jeremiah 29:11

If you would like to know the thoughts that Jesus has towards you and you don’t know Him as your personal saviour, this simple prayer is all that you need to get started.  Just repeat it with heartfelt sincerity, then walk with Him every day.  God Bless You.
