PERSECUTED

Give me a passion to see Your glory
A heart that worships You alone
Cleanse me forgive me for my self-seeking
That I might seek to make You known
I want to serve You I want to please You
My one desire is to
See the name of Jesus lifted
High above all things
And the knowledge of Your glory fill the earth
To see the name of Jesus lifted
High above all things
And a fragrant offering ascending to the King
In every place

Your heart, Your passion to give all nations
Gladness and joy in Jesus Christ
Rivers of blessing mercy and kindness
Purchased by Your great sacrifice
So we join our voices to sing Your praises
Our one desire is to

See the name of Jesus lifted
High above all things
And the knowledge of Your glory fill the earth
To see the name of Jesus lifted
High above all things
And a fragrant offering ascending to the King
In every place

Why are people around the world afraid of the name of Jesus?

Why are they afraid of those of us who lift the name of Jesus above all things?

Why do these people persecute us?

Why…because we love Him and why because Jesus said they would.

Jesus said, Matthew 10:16, 22 “Behold, I send you out as sheep in the midst of wolves.  Therefore be wise as serpents and harmless as doves.  And you will be hated by all for My name’s sake. But he who endures to the end will be saved.”  Jesus also said, John 15:18-23 “If the world hates you, you know that it hated Me before it hated you.  If you were of the world, the world would love its own.  Yet because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore he world hates you…If they persecuted Me, they will also persecute you…But all these things they will do to you for My name’s sake, because they do not know Him who sent Me…He who hates Me hates My Father also.”

I could see, if we Christians were like ISIS, where their Koran speaks of hate and killing and promotes violence, there would be cause to persecute us.  But our Bible is the true Word of God and does not speak of violence. Our Bible speaks of love because God is Love and He sent His Son Jesus Christ into our world who was nothing but love in the grandest form.  Who died for us, He was the greatest sacrifice of love.  This is power!

We need to remember that we are in a spiritual war.  Ephesians 6:12, “For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.”  Satan wants as many believers as possible to live defeated lives, and does not want the power of God to be demonstrated through us.  The devil does not want the world to see any difference between themselves and the Christian.  Satan’s idea is to keep as many people as possible from serving the Lord.  So when you see groups such as ISIS, Boko Haram, Communisim, and Gay Rights organizations, rise up against Christians,  trying to discredit the deity of the Lord Jesus, you see Satan and his minions at work.  This has been going on since the time of Nero and possibly before, as Christians were considered to be a threat.

Franklin Graham of Samaritan’s Purse and Billy Graham Evangelistic Association recently said, “I recently returned from Iraq, where Christians have suffered greatly.  The brutal murder of believers has become commonplace, and hundreds of thousands of Christians in Iraq have been forced to flee their homes in the last few years because of the actions of fundamentalist Islam.  A sobering new study reports that around the world, in just the last 12 months, 90,000 believers have been killed because of their commitment to Jesus Christ – that’s one person every six minutes.  Vastly more believers are being persecuted in ways that seldom or never get much news coverage.  Another study reports that half a billion Christians today live in circumstances where they are prohibited from freely expressing their faith.”

Around the world Christians are being persecuted because Satan wants to shut us up.  He doesn’t want Jesus to be above all things…he wants to be.  But Jesus asked us as His followers to spread the gospel to all the world, because He loves everyone in it.  He wants everyone to be with Him one day in that glorious home called heaven.  Living God’s way is completely different from the world’s perception of how we should live.

A spirit of hopelessness comes from Satan, but you have the authority to come against this spirit in the Name of Jesus. A great battle is being waged in the world today, which is not political, but is spiritual in nature.  Jesus said, John 16:33, “These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace.  In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.”   Notice Jesus did not say “if you have tribulation”  He said “you will have tribulation”, persecution will come.  As long as believers are in this world, but living for the Lord, they will be protected from the evil one and indelibly marked as belonging to Him by His truth.

Persecutors think that if you brutalize a few, you will intimidate the many.  But what they don’t realize is that we are willing to lay down our lives, to die for our Lord.   As we know our life is not in this life and that what we have told and leave behind will continue on, because someone, somewhere will pick up and carry on.  Philippians 2:9-11, “Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”

So as Christians, we are not afraid of those who persecute us as we are equipped by God, through our Lord Jesus Christ, and have girded ourselves with the armour God has provided (Ephesians 6:14-18).  Ephesians 6:13, “Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.”    And we must be proficient in using all the pieces.

Spiritual battles must be fought with spiritual weapons.  God promises that such weapons will defeat the enemy.

We will not be silent.

Can I get an AMEN!!!
