The Missing Piece of the Puzzle

Lately I’ve been missing something worth living for
Getting dizzy searching I just want to find out more
Something to complete me, but everything is falling short
I just feel so empty standing at a closing door

But You, You found me in my loneliness
And You, You filled me with Your righteousness
When I’m weak, You’re strong
You’re big when I’m small
You’re right when everything (everything) seems wrong
You’re my missing puzzle piece

I’m reaching out for You because
You’re the only one I need
Trying to follow the path
You’ve set for me
Every day I’m learning, I know I’m gonna make mistakes
Joy comes in the morning; I’ll forever praise Your name.

But You, You found me in my loneliness
And You, You filled me with Your righteousness
When I’m weak, You’re strong
You’re big when I’m small
You’re right when everything (everything) seems wrong
You’re my missing puzzle piece

But what about life…how do we make all the pieces of life fit together.  Home, work, school, play, health, God.

joni“When puzzle pieces go missing, I want to understand.  I want to see how all these pieces can be put back together.  But the real wisdom is not the ability to find all the puzzle back together.  Real wisdom is trusting God even when life doesn’t make sense.”  Joni Earekson Tada.  A diving accident in 1967 left Joni Eareckson Tada a quadriplegic in a wheelchair. Today, she is an internationally known mouth artist, a talented vocalist, a radio host, an author of 17 books and an advocate for disabled persons worldwide. Joni struggled to accept this tragedy, but came to realize God’s design in her paralysis.  Now that’s putting the pieces together.

puzzle missing cat - EditedJigsaw puzzles need all the pieces to enjoy a satisfying outcome.  In many ways, life is like a 1,000-piece jigsaw puzzle. We spend our days putting it together, hoping to create something meaningful out of all the scattered pieces. But when we can’t find the strategic pieces that complete the picture of some challenging situation in life, we face unsettling disappointment at best, and, at worst, despair.

jigsaw heartWe have been told for centuries that life can be confusing, lonely, meaningless, and empty. Disappointment and despair are to be expected as normal by-products of our existence.  Even Solomon searched the depths of wisdom, pleasure, wealth, and work to find meaning and satisfaction but came up disillusioned.  His conclusion is painstakingly honest:  Ecclesiastes 2:11 “Then I looked on all the works that my hands had done and on the labor in which I had toiled; and indeed all was vanity and grasping for the wind.  There was no profit under the sun.”

confusion 1Let’s face it; there have been times when we’ve wondered why life is not more rewarding.  And when life gets in our face, we are shocked at how brutal and unconsoling it can be.  In our quiet moments, we feel a sense of emptiness and fear.  We wonder, “Why? What’s missing?”  Peace is missing.  That peace Jesus said in John 14:27, “Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you.  Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.”   The peace only he can give.

Has anyone noticed that the one thing many have in common is that God has been removed as the centre of our existence?  God is being removed from our schools –  we shouldn’t mention Him in our prayers; from historical documents – forefathers mentioned God because He gave them the liberties and freedoms enjoyed, and even the Bible, some translators want His name removed, some churches remove God and put a spokesperson at the helm – brother so-and-so will give us guidance.  Jesus is the missing piece; the piece we so desperately need in order to complete the picture of life.  When God is banished from our human existence we are alone.  And in that aloneness, emptiness and vulnerability come creeping in, giving way for Satan to grab hold and really mess things up.  Jesus said in Matthew 11:28-29, “Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.  Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly of heart and you will find rest for your souls.”  Satan can’t say that for there is no rest for the wicked.

jesus final piece to puzzleThe good news is, while we have life and breath, God will not cease to pursue a rewarding, deepening intimacy with us.  He is not content to leave us alone.  Once we put Him in the right place, He begins to bring all the scattered pieces together to complete the picture of our lives—and it’s a good picture when He is the strategic piece!  Colossians 2:10 “And you are complete in Him, who is the head of all principality and power.”
