You change worthless into precious
Guilty to forgiven
Hungry into satisfied
Empty into full
All the lies are shattered
And we believe we matter
When You change broken into beautiful
We live with accusations
Sometimes heavy expectations
That tell us we can never measure up
And yet You repeat with mercy
That in your eyes we are worthy
At last we see how much we’re loved
excerpt from Broken Into Beautiful by Gwen Smith, (songwriter, speaker, worship leader)
I’m in a university classroom, just received a paper back marked “you didn’t measure up” with another note saying “do a thesis on being relevant”. First of all what is a thesis, never did one before. ??? So I set off running for answers. I find myself all turned around and on another street in another place, running down halls, with so many twists and turns and am lost. Talk to people I don’t even know who aren’t telling me anything. I try to get back to the university, I see it in the distance, but it’s now snowing and I have to cross vast areas to get back. I’m tired and feel I can’t go on to get where I’m going. I feel so worthless. What’s relevant??? I’m crying…why…what for…I continue running.”
Then I woke up.
The devil is working overtime. He’s ever trying to pull us down, even in our dreams.
“Simple Definition of relativity. physics : a theory developed by Albert Einstein which says that the way that anything except light moves through time and space depends on the position and movement of someone who is watching.”
Well, I was watching and I was moving through space and time and came to no avail. How silly our minds can be either while we sleep or are awake. My dream was ever so silly because I know better about the fact that I am worthy and I am beautifully made and in reality I am relevant.
We live in a competitive world. The pressures to be thin, beautiful, fit, smart, sexy, funny, rich, and popular trap us in a relentless vise-grip. No one is exempt. Feelings of inadequacy and inferiority ravage hearts of Christians and non-Christians alike. When we get caught in the trap of striving to measure up (even in a dream), we focus on ourselves. That was never God’s plan. We were designed to focus on Him. Shifting our attention from ourselves to God will change our perspective.
We must remember we are fearfully and wonderfully made.
In the original Hebrew text of the Bible, the word fearfully means: with great reverence, heart-felt interest and with respect. The word wonderfully means: unique, set apart, marvelous. You do not need to conform to somebody else’s image of success, but only ask God for ears to hear His delight in your being.
The real relativity is: that God is infinitely intelligent and He is the only being who could have created such a complex universe which has everything in place so perfectly, which includes me and you. Psalm 46:10, “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!” Job 37:5, “God thunders marvelously with His voice; He does great things which we cannot comprehend.”
Matthew 6:26 Jesus said, “Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?” This is relevant. Don’t compare your life to anyone else. God’s plan for you is masterfully unique.
My life is my journey with God. It may be hard sometimes but I am assured it is all worth it. The reality is if you know who you are in Jesus, it won’t matter so much to you what other people think. The reality is that everybody has troubles, but not everybody has Jesus. Jesus makes all the difference! Romans 12:2 “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.”
Are these not things that should be relevant in our lives?
That make us Relevant.
