Under the Sun or Son

Oh we look to the Son
Set our eyes on our Saviour
See the image of love
Sing His praises forever
Oh we look to the Son
Oh we look to the Son
Salvation
Tearing through the dead of night
See the kingdom burst into colour
At the speed of light
Freedom
Shaking up the atmosphere
As the shadows fade into nothing
As the day appears
Beyond the skies above
Love reaching out for us
The Everlasting One
Jesus our God
Oh we look to the Son
Set our eyes on our Saviour
See the image of love
Sing His praises forever
Oh we look to the Son

We all love it.

It’s warm.  It’s bright.  It makes us feel good.  It’s healthy for us to get some.  It makes gloomy into cheerful.  And on some days it beats the rain…although we need a little rain too.

But just living under the sun can have it’s problems.  We know the world we live in today isn’t going to last.  Those of us who are Christian, make the best of it because we know that one day we will be above the sun, living without the strife that today’s world brings us.  That’s because we have the Son in our daily walk.

Imagine walking into a pitch-dark room – no windows, no lamps, no shadows, no light of any kind.  Think of that room as this spiritually dark world.  Being born into this world is like walking into that dark room.

John warns us about the world we live in when he said in 1 John 2:15 “Do not love the world or the things in the world.  If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.”

If we love the system of this world then we are lost. Because it has false values, false standards and false gods of society and this world’s system is under the evil one.  Why, because this world doesn’t know the love of the Father, which he gave us in His Son.  Colossians 1:13, “He has delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of His love.”

Those of us who know the Son, know the world’s hatred.  Because Jesus told us in John 15:18, “If the world hates you, you know that it hated Me before it hated you.  If you were of the world, the world would love it’s own.  Yet because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you.”

In Charles Dickens’ story “A Tale of Two Cities” the main character, Carton, as he awaits his sacrificial death says: “I see a beautiful city and a brilliant people rising from this abyss, and, in their struggles to be truly free, in their triumphs and defeats, though long to come, I see the evil of this time and of the previous time of which this is the natural birth, gradually making expiation for itself and wearing out.”  Uhmm?  I wonder if Carton was a Godly man and his knowledge of what is to come is on point.  He seems to say as I read this passage, that he can see the beautiful city above the sun, above the world he lives in.  Above the bottomless pit where we struggle to be freed from.  Much like today’s world, whether the sun is shining or not.

Jesus is the  Light of the World.

God put the sun in the world as did he the moon…this was to differentiate between morning and night.  But His Son, He put in the world to be the all encompassing light of life.  John 8:12, Jesus said, “I am the light of the world.  He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.”   Jesus fills our hearts with love that we can become the light for others to see their way to Him.  As believers we become His light.

John 5:14-16, Jesus said,“You are the light of the world.   A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.”  Jesus’ purpose is to be a light to the nations, but he wants us as followers to reflect His light into the world’s darkness.  As Christians we must allow God’s light to be on full display in our lives that others will see Jesus in us and to glorify our heavenly Father.

Open up your heart…let Jesus in…He will brighten up your world…He will give you brightness that shoots out of the ends of your hair…

In this world you can live under the sun….but live for the Son, that you can be forever with Him in the new world He is preparing for us.
