We might never know the answersWe might never know the outcomeBut we know JesusWe know JesusEven when we face the darknessWe know better days are comingCause we know JesusWe know Jesus
When I was growing up, my Daddy always told me to look the other person in the eye and give them a good strong handshake. It used to be that a handshake meant trust. It meant a promise made was a promise kept. Many a business deal was sealed with a handshake rather than a 12 page contract.
Trust is an important part of any relationship. We rely on people who say they can and will help when we ask for it. When we hire a company to fix our leaky plumbing or roof, we trust them to do the job and stop the leaks. If they do an excellent job they are rewarded by you forwarding business to them, there is a trust that has been built.
God works on the same principle, all that He said He would do He has done. His Word teaches us that. When we experience heartbreak, struggles, unanswered prayer, or just filling our schedules with everything but Him can make us believe God is distant.
There are times we need Him but we just don’t know what to say or where to begin. Start by saying His name…and then tell Him what is on your heart. The Bible tells us there is power in the name of Jesus, not only because “Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved” Acts 4:12 NIV, but because Jesus answers to His name when His loved ones call Him.
James 4:6 tells us “God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble”. If we don’t want God to turn away from us because we’ve been resisting Him, James 4:7-8a tells us, “Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. Draw near to God and He will draw near to you.” Submit means to place yourself under God’s guidance, if you are unwilling you will never be open to the grace He has offered.
In today’s world we seem to be all feelly-touchy, for us to believe in something. Although we cannot see Him physically, God wants our faith that He is who His Word says He is and He will do what He promises. Romans 1:17, tells us, “For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written, “The just shall live by faith.” and in Hebrews 11:6 He tells us that “Without faith it is impossible to please Him.” When Satan tempts people it is to bring out the worst, but God tests us to help bring out the best.
God is as near to us as our skin is to our skeletons. When we go somewhere, He is there, actually, He is probably there before we get there. Psalm 139:5 (NLT), “You go before me and follow me.
You place your hand of blessing on my head.” In moments of confusion and busyness, God knows which way we are going and is there to protect us – even when we can’t see Him. God cares about every aspect of your life. Proverbs 18:24 (NIV), tells us, “One who has unreliable friends soon comes to ruin, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.” That “friend” is Jesus Christ. He is our Savior from sin and the Lord of our lives.
God speaks to us through His Word. And one of the best ways to sense His presence is to get into His Word and ask His Holy Spirit to guide you into a better understanding of it. When you get into God’s Word, and even speak it audibly, you will sense its power and His presence. Hebrews 4:12 tells us, “For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.” That sharp sword will prick your heart through conviction, inspiration, awareness, and will power. A pricked heart is better than a numb, dull, or self serving heart any day, so get into His Word and find Him there.
When you start praising Him, regardless of where you are, you’ll sense His presence—probably because you’re no longer focused on yourself, but on Him. When we open the door of our hearts to love Him, He will meet us there. Every time. Deuteronomy 31:6 (NIV) tells us, “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.” The Lord has been saying this for generations and still today He is saying it to you.
If you do not know the presence of God with you or near you and would like to, pray this little prayer, ask Him into your heart today. Believe in Him and He will walk every step of life with you. Don’t be afraid to talk to Him regularly, He is always listening for your voice.
